Cybersecurity

Why we need global rules to crack down on cybercrime

This is the headline of news published by the World Economic Forum. (WeForum)

Did you know that the cost of cybercrime could reach $10.5 trillion annually by 2025?

WeForum proposed creating a set of global rules to crack down on cybercrime.

Well, I have to differ on WeForum. I don’t think the issue is the need to have global rules to crack down on cybercrime but enforcing the existing rules all organizations should have in place.

Documenting attack modes will indeed reduce cases such as “The Cobalt Group,” which attacked at least 100 Financial Institutions in 40 Countries (an opening on the SWIFT system), collecting EUR10M per heist.

Still, in many cases, the right approach will be contracting a specialized MSP who will use this information to update cybersecurity policies for clients.

Why do you think that is the case?

Because in many organizations, the right approach should be having a continuous improvement, real-time responding team.

Be Notified > Act/Enforce new Policies > Notify business leaders > Update policies /documentation.

Is that all?

Well, sadly, no: Cybersecurity education and lack of Cybersecurity habits in Information Workers will continue to be a significant risk to many organizations.

Artificial intelligence

4 pillars for using AI responsibly in a skill-based organization

This is an excellent report published by the World Economic Forum this week.

Everybody agrees that incorporating AI in business is not a Yes/No decision but a How?

I don’t see AI as a technology intended to reduce the workforce, but it certainly raises the level of the workforce from knowledge-based to skill-based.

In the coming years, I see an increased number of use cases where AI solutions provide information to decision-makers supported by data analytics and evidence.

I also see increasing use cases where professionals and AI-based systems interact in real-time to enrich the customer experience.

Why is this report important?

This report provides some good advice to keep all stakeholders accountable and informed about the data quality and outcomes of using AI.

An exciting read for Thought Leaders!

Google Publishes Technique for AI-Language Model Self-Improvement

InfoQ published today an article documenting the progress of Google and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign working together developing an AI model capable of improving their responses to a given task (questions) by self-feeding knowledge acquired previously by the model itself.

Why is this news relevant?

This is a promising outcome: Self-learned AI-based systems.

It is a mix of opening multiple scenarios unexplored and also the need to enforce responsible AI.

A must-read for Business and Technical Leaders.

And a bonus!
