Ep 65: The AI Dilemma – Savior or Threat to Humanity?

Ep. 65 The AI Dilemma Savior or Threat to Humanity

Heads up, Thought Leaders! In this episode, we will address three relevant stories regarding a new wave of fear related to the improper use of Artificial Intelligence, or the AI Dilemma.

Let’s dive in!

Artificial intelligence

Open AI Leader on whether AI will save Humanity – or destroy it.

To begin with, The Guardian posted an interview this week with Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, the creators of ChatGPT, in which he discusses his advocacy for regulating Artificial Intelligence (AI) while also championing its potential benefits.

Why is this news relevant?

This interview is controversial as it presents the future of AI as a multifaceted situation. On the one hand, there is the risk that current Artificial Intelligence solutions, which are focused on specific tasks (referred to as Artificial Narrow Intelligence or ANI), can be misused by humans to harm others, necessitating regulation. On the other hand, it highlights the importance of setting rules as we develop more advanced AI entities, exceptionally those capable of exhibiting a wide range of intelligence known as Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). These regulations would establish boundaries to protect humans and AI entities.

Britain to host first global summit on artificial intelligence safety.

Secondly, Reuters posted an article this week, commenting on conversations between the UK and US Governments to explore joint initiatives to benefit from AI and build safety measures.

Why is this news relevant?

Where there’s smoke, there’s fire. At least, learning about the topic and exploring ways to collaborate shows concern. Kudos!

This news is in progress; more to come.

Artificial Intelligence is Getting Regulated

Thirdly, Forbes posted an article this week, commenting on many aspects of using the information provided by Artificial Intelligent Entities and the need to regulate many business activities in response to privacy, copyright infringement, disrupting existing businesses, discrimination, and other matters.

Why is this news relevant?

While I support the need for regulations, I am also aware that in some instances, people use AI as an excuse to make public situations that humans have been practicing for centuries, benefiting allies and affecting non-partisans.

It bothers me a little all the smoke about AI-Entities harming humans when, in fact, the situation is humans using AI-Entities to benefit themselves.

Probably, to address this challenge, particularly, we need a team comprised of leaders with a mix of deep understanding of (1) Technology, (2) Human Nature, and (3) Humility: a team of servant leaders.

Lastly, with that being said, I prefer to maintain a low profile on this matter.
